Did you know?

The first presentation of the Academy Awards was on May 16, 1929. This took place at a brunch at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. There were approximately 270 people in attendance. To get into that night’s ceremony, one would have to pony up five whole dollars for a ticket.

Only fifteen statuettes were awarded for various members of the film community in the 1927–1928 period.
